THE VINEYARD: RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND ECOLOGICAL AND BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE
Finca Torremilanos currently has 195 hectares of vineyards. The site is varied in terms of land composition, orientation, altitude and microclimate. Our vineyards are heterogeneous and are composed of different plots in the vicinity of Torremilanos.
The vineyards are located on the southern margin of the Douro River at an altitude of 800 to 900 meters. At Finca Torremilanos we practice a dryland agriculture cultivating the vineyards without herbicides or insecticides following the criteria of biodynamic agriculture. We consider ourselves “Artisan of the Earth” practicing 100% ecological and biodynamic agriculture
THE HISTORY OF THE TORREMILANOS VINEYARD
Torremilanos is located in the heart of the Ribera de Duero, near the city of Aranda de Duero and in a place characterized by being one of the centers of wine culture and wine tourism in the area.
The wine tradition of Torremilanos dates back to 1903, although it is in 1975 when the Peñalba Lopez family acquired the estate. Convinced of the quality of our autochthonous grape, the Tempranillo variety and experts in the art of viticulture, Pablo Peñalba decides to increase the amount of own vineyards until reaching the 200 hectares that the family owns today.
All of them are located in the mountains close to the winery and are cared for following a philosophy of respect for the environment that allows certifying all the wines of the Torremilanos Winery as organic. The quality of the grapes, the soil, the climate, the own cooperage and the special conditions of the winery ensure optimum aging and the quality of our wines.
